Seven members of the Islamic State jihadist group have been killed in a bombing by Iraqi aircraft, including the organization’s «governor» for Iraq’s Diyala province.
The bombing took place in the Hamrin mountains region, a spokesman for the Armed Forces General Staff, Major General Yahya Rasul, was quoted as saying by the official Iraqi news agency, INA.
The result was «two successful strikes by F-16 fighter jets,» he said. «These two strikes have resulted in the death of seven terrorists, including the alleged governor of Diyala, Sami Mohan, alias ‘Ibn Abdul Rahman’,» he said.
Rasul has indicated that «Iraqi security forces continue to pursue defeated terrorist elements with ground tracking and intensified intelligence operations by the Directorate of Military Intelligence in coordination with the Joint Operations Command’s targeting cell.»
