Journalist Alexander Alvarez was shot dead Tuesday in the Paraguayan city of Pedro Juan Caballero, in the Amambay region, located on the border with Brazil.
According to a preliminary report, the reporter was inside his vehicle when several unknown persons shot him from a motorcycle, reports Monumental 1080 AM radio station.
The commander of the Amambay Police, Jorge Villadet, said that it is not ruled out that the murder was a result of a mistaken target by the perpetrator, without providing further details.
His colleague Raúl Ortiz has pointed out that Álvarez was not receiving any threat, so they do not know the motive of the attack. «We don’t know what the background is. He did not communicate, he did not report anything about whether he ever had any incident with anyone,» as reported by ABC radio station.
«Our colleague did not present programs with controversies, topics related to drug trafficking or border areas,» said his colleague, before adding that his death «is a blow» against his «passion, journalism».
