Emergency services have rescued a mother and her two children alive from the rubble of a building in the Turkish province of Hatay that collapsed in the earthquakes that shook the area nine days ago. «What day is it?» the woman asked as she emerged.
The rescues have taken place 228 hours after the first tremors, according to the Anatolia news agency. Personnel on the ground have explained that, apparently, both the mother and the two minors — boy and girl — are in acceptable health conditions.
These evacuations are in addition to several others throughout the day in various areas of southeastern Turkey affected by the earthquakes. The authorities, who do not rule out the possibility of continuing to locate people alive, estimate that more than 35,000 people have died as a result of the earthquakes in Turkey alone.
