
Indonesian authorities reported Monday that the death toll from a landslide that occurred on March 6 in the province of Riau Islands, in the northwest of the country, has risen to 46.
Earlier reports indicated that more than thirty people were killed in a landslide that buried almost all of a village in the Serasan district, according to the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
The authorities had also indicated that at least 24 people were still missing as a result of the heavy rains recorded over the last week in the country.
Now, the BNPB has detailed in a statement that among the fatalities are 24 men and 22 women, although it has confirmed that search and rescue efforts continue in the area to try to find nine people who remain unaccounted for.
