Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday ruled out calling early elections in the country, stressing that he has no plans to dissolve Parliament.
»Currently, I am not examining the possibility of dissolving the lower house to hold early elections,» he said during a parliamentary meeting, according to Jiji Press news agency.
In this regard, he asserted that the government plans to »solve other more urgent problems» while advocating »strengthening the country’s defense, reviewing its energy policy and boosting welfare». First, we must focus on these areas,» Kishida said.
The term of office for lower house deputies ends in October 2025. At the end of 2022, Kishida did not rule out, however, the possibility of holding the elections early in the face of the crisis caused by rising prices.
