At least two people have been killed and two others injured as a result of drone strikes in the Kurdish-Iraqi province of Solimania, a week after the assassination attempt in that area on the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Sources of the Kurdish agency Rudaw indicate that, as already happened last weekend, Turkey has been behind this attack, part of its operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, considered by Ankara as a terrorist organization.
Specifically, last Saturday’s attacks hit three villages in the municipality of Penjwen, near the Iranian border.
According to preliminary investigations, as a result of these bombings, two people were killed and two others were wounded,» explained Haval Abubakir, governor of Solimania.
Abubakir discussed these attacks in a phone call with Kurdish Prime Minister Masrur Barzani.
On the other hand, in the last hours, Iraqi security sources have reported the impact of a drone on a US military base at Baghdad International Airport, with no casualties.
The aircraft was intercepted by the US Army and ended up crashing near a school for technicians at the airport.
The wreckage of the aircraft has been turned over to the Joint Coordination Center to determine where it came from, whether it contained explosives or whether it was limited to surveillance missions.
