Security personnel from the Federal Supreme Court and shock troops from the Federal District Military Police have managed to regain control of the TSF headquarters, taken over by supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
TSF sources quoted by the O Globo chain said that some of the assailants are being held in the building’s garage and the headquarters is fully under control of the authorities, who are already assessing the damage.
Images disseminated on social networks show demonstrators dressed in green and yellow breaking into the main hearing room of the Federal Supreme Court and smashing glass and tables.
The Supreme Court headquarters was stormed this Sunday along with the headquarters of Congress and the Planalto Palace — Brazil’s presidential palace — by Bolsonaro supporters demanding a coup d’état by the Armed Forces and the arrest of the new Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
