The Russian presidency has urged the U.S. government to investigate the alleged presence of balloons and other unidentified flying objects in its airspace without «blaming» other countries, after Washington in recent days has put the spotlight on Beijing.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has called for «caution» in dealing with the issue, in a message he has extended to both Joe Biden’s administration and NATO, as its secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, took aim at Russia on Tuesday when talking about the growing controversy.
Stoltenberg said the detection of suspected surveillance devices in the United States is «part of a pattern» whereby China and Russia «increase their intelligence and surveillance activities against NATO allies.»
For Peskov, who appeared before the media, such statements confirm that the Atlantic Alliance is «hostile». This organization, he added, «strives every day to make its involvement in the Ukrainian conflict as clear as possible», reports the Interfax news agency.
