
Brazilian police have confirmed the arrest of an individual who tried to enter the inauguration ceremony of Brazil’s president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Sunday armed with a knife.
According to a statement from the Military Police of the Federal District, the man was arrested at 09.00, local time, when he tried to enter the inauguration party area in Brasili, armed with a knife.
«The individual was coming from Rio de Janeiro to participate in the event and, during the search, a knife and fireworks were found on him,» according to the PMDF statement picked up by the portal Diario do Centro do Mundo.
Also in the last hours the Federal Police used an anti-drone device to shoot down an unmanned aerial device that had invaded the esplanade where the ceremony will be held, reports the newspaper ‘O Globo’.
Lula will take office this Sunday in a ceremony that will be attended by more than a dozen heads of state and government, amid huge security measures.
The program includes several concerts in the esplanade of the ministries. Lula will make his way around 2.30 p.m. (local time) to the Brasilia Cathedral accompanied by his wife and riding in a car in procession.
