The Brazilian police authorities have finished this Monday the final lifting of the last redoubt of the camp set up just over two months ago by supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro at the gates of the Army headquarters in Brasilia, with the last arrest of 1,200 people.

Officers of the Brasilia Military Police and the National Security Force arrived at 7:00 a.m. (local time) on Monday to warn the last ones who persisted in remaining in the camp where the assault on the headquarters of the three branches of government took place that they had one hour to leave the place.

The evacuation took place without confrontations, although there were some arrests, once the majority of those who had been camped out opted to leave before the last warning of the authorities led by the Ministers of Defense, José Múcio, and of the Civil House, Rui Costa, according to the Brazilian media.

The Government of Brasilia has chartered about forty buses to take out about 1,200 stragglers who were still in the camp and to transfer them to the Federal Police, where they will be interrogated.

Throughout Monday morning, the agents began the dismantling of a camp after the Army did not allow the Police to enter on Sunday night. According to government sources to which the newspaper ‘O Globo’ had access, the refusal could be motivated because many of the campers were relatives and acquaintances of the military.

In response, Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, one of the targets of the radicals, ordered the dismantling of the camp and the temporary dismissal of the governor of Brasilia, Ibaneis Rocha, after the anti-democratic acts that took place on Sunday, with the storming of the headquarters of the three branches of government.

In Rocha’s place, vice-governor Celina Leão will take over the leadership of the capital, over which President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva decreed the federal intervention to assume the security competences.
