
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday urged China to provide real-time information on the epidemiological situation in the country, which is facing an explosion of COVID-19 cases following the lifting of most of the restrictions imposed throughout the pandemic.
After WHO held a meeting with Chinese officials on the current situation of the coronavirus pandemic, the UN agency emphasized the importance of monitoring and «timely release» of data in order to help China and the global community «formulate accurate risk assessments and inform effective responses.»
«WHO again requested the regular sharing of specific and real-time data on the epidemiological situation, including more genetic sequencing data, data on the impact of the disease, including hospitalizations, admissions and deaths in the intensive care unit (ICU),» read a statement released by WHO.
The health organization has also asked China to provide data on vaccines administered and vaccination status, especially in vulnerable people and those over 60 years of age.
It has also asked the Asian giant to strengthen viral sequencing, clinical management and impact assessment, expressing its willingness to provide support in these areas, as well as in the communication of vaccination risks to counteract doubts.
