The president of the Brazilian Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, has called an extraordinary joint session with the Chamber of Deputies to analyze the request by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to intervene the Federal District of Brasilia in response to the seizure of the headquarters of the three branches of government by supporters of Jair Bolsonaro.
Pacheco was on vacation in France and is now returning to Brazil, where he will arrive this Monday, according to the Brazilian television network O Globo.
The Brazilian Congress will thus analyze the decree issued by Lula by which the Federal Government assumes the competences of Brasilia in security matters and installs an intervener, Ricardo Garcia Cappelli, executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
More than a hundred people have been arrested after the assault on the headquarters of the Presidency, the Congress and the Federal Supreme Court by Bolsonaro’s supporters, who intended to force a coup d’état against Lula.
