The leaders of Japan, the United States, South Korea, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have held an emergency meeting following North Korea’s latest launch of a new intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday.
The leaders met on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum being held in Bangkok (Thailand) where all of them have been summoned, according to the Japanese public television NHK.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said that the launch «destabilizes the security of the region» and «unnecessarily» increases tension. She also indicated that they strongly condemn these actions and demand that North Korea not carry out any more «illegal acts of destabilization».
In this sense, the six countries have reaffirmed their commitment to work together in the process of denuclearization of Pyongyang.
