The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, has issued a decree to «suspend the regular working day» on February 6, as requested by the National Electoral Council (CNE) to facilitate the recount of the previous day’s voting day and the adequacy of the facilities used in that event.
Ecuador is called to elect 5,600 positions at local level and to renew the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS), in a day in which a battery of proposals to change the Constitution promoted by the Government will also be submitted to referendum.
The NEC, after a meeting held on Wednesday, asked Lasso for time to complete the recount and release the public facilities used during the election day. Authorities estimate that more than 4,000 educational centers will be set up for voting.
The president has accepted the proposal and has suspended the working day on February 6 for both the public and private sectors. In the public sector, workers will be added «one additional hour during the following eight working days», while in the private sector the system will be established «by mutual agreement between employers and workers».
