The Prosecutor’s Office of the Judicial Center for Combating Terrorism in Tunisia has authorized the detention for five more days of political activist Ali Al Lafi, arrested on March 5 on suspicion of fraud and currency smuggling and now suspected of having terrorism-related documents in his home.

During a search at the home of Ali Al Lafi, who works as a political analyst and was an advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, agents of the Central Counter-Terrorism Division of the National Guard reportedly found documents linking him to terrorist groups, reports ‘Mosaique FM’.

Although the initial arrest was based on possible fraud charges, these new discoveries at his home have led to the case being referred to the unit investigating links to terrorism, for whose investigation Ali Al Lafi’s detention has been extended for an additional five days.

Among the documents would be a record related to the monitoring and tracking of terrorist elements in the country, as well as original documents issued by security departments related to weapons, as reported by the head of the Tunisian Organization for Security and Citizenship, Issam Dardouri, in statements to ‘Radio Shams FM’.
