
At least one person has died and 57 more have been injured due to a collision between two trains on Line 3 of Mexico City’s Metro, the metropolis’ head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, has confirmed, releasing a full list of names.
Sheinbaum has explained that four people were crushed in the crash, all of them already rescued and hospitalized. The most serious person is the driver of the train.
The crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of La Raza station, forcing the suspension of service between Indios Verdes station to Guerrero station.
«The secretaries of Government, of Citizen Security, of Integral Risk Management, and the director of Metro arrived at the site. I am reporting and on my way. More information shortly,» added the head of government.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has expressed his condolences and solidarity for the accident. «I regret the accident in the Mexico City Metro. According to what I am informed, unfortunately one person lost his life and there are several injured. My condolences and solidarity,» said López Obrador on social networks.
«From the beginning, the public servants of Mexico City have been attending to the accident, and they have all our support,» added the president.
