Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa has invited Latin American countries to consider exporting green hydrogen to Europe by taking advantage of the interconnections agreed by Portugal, Spain and France, exemplified by the H2Med pipeline.
Costa, a participant in the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit in Santo Domingo, called for closer ties between the two sides of the Atlantic Ocean and raised the energy variable as one of the elements where there is room for further progress, apart from traditional fossil resources.
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has alluded in the forum to the capacity of Latin America to be a power in the production of green hydrogen and, in turn, Costa has picked up the gauntlet pointing out that such exploitation can serve both for »own consumption» and for export.
In this sense, he recalled that green hydrogen can be exported by France and mentioned the recent agreement to redistribute green hydrogen among different European countries.
Costa proposed that the agreed infrastructure be used so that Latin American gas can also be »distributed throughout Europe», after unloading in ports in Portugal and Spain.
