The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, received his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, this Sunday afternoon at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), to participate in the North American Leaders’ Summit.
Mexican authorities have deployed an important security operation, in which the presence of members of the Army and the National Guard has been highlighted.
There has also been aerial surveillance by helicopters and drones, as reported by the Reforma news agency.
The last visit of a US president to Mexico was in 2013, when the then president Barack Obama met with his former counterpart Enrique Peña Nieto.
On this occasion, Biden’s visit to the North American country is due to the X North American Leaders Summit, in which the leaders of the United States, Mexico and Canada will participate next Tuesday. For this reason, López Obrador will also receive the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeu.
The Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has informed that the trilateral meeting will address the issues of migration, development, security, climate change and health, among others, as reported by the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
However, Ebrard explained that the Mexican Administration’s intention is to emphasize a new stage for the region that can be extended to the rest of the continent on the basis of reciprocity, mutual respect and a common vision.
