Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, also known as ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, appointed on Monday former military officer Carlito Galvez as the new Defense Minister following the resignation of Jose Faustino Jr. in the face of rumors of possible coup factions within the Armed Forces.
This was confirmed by the president in a press conference, although he did not give details about the resignation of the former minister, as reported by the news portal Rappler.
The spokeswoman of the Philippine Presidency, Cheloy Garafil, said that the President «has accepted the resignation of Faustino Jr.» and confirmed that the position has been offered to Galvez», who also worked as an advisor.
Galvez, an Army veteran, was at the forefront of a peace plan for the country and spearheaded the management and introduction of measures announced by the previous government to fight the coronavirus.
