Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Markian Dmitrasevich reported on Wednesday that the authorities are preparing to send tons of grain to Kenya, Yemen and Sudan.
As detailed by Minister Dmitrasevich, these three ships will sail from Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea with cargoes ranging from 25,000 to 30,000 tons of wheat, Ukrinform agency reports.
«African countries are the most in need of food and also suffer from rising food prices. Worst of all, they are suffering from shortages,» said the head of the Agricultural Policy and Food portfolio.
This new export of cereals would take place within the framework of the agreement reached at the end of July between Russia and Ukraine and with the mediation of Turkey and the United Nations. Since then, more than 14 million tons have already left Ukrainian ports.
However, this agreement is now less than 60 days away from expiring and, from the Ukrainian Embassy in Ankara, they have called for its extension as it has been demonstrated that «this initiative has confirmed its viability».
