The Ukrainian authorities have decreed Thursday an air alert throughout the country due to the firing of missiles by Russia against several points of the country, including the capital, Kiev, with no information at the moment about casualties or material damage.
The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, has confirmed on his Telegram account «explosions» in the Dnipro district. «Stay in shelters,» he has recommended to the population, while stressing that «all services are in place». «There will be details later,» he has added.
After that, the head of the Kiev Civil-Military Administration, Serhiy Popko, has indicated that «the enemy has launched more than 15 cruise missiles in the direction of Kiev». «Thanks to the excellent work of the air defense, all targets have been shot down. However, the danger of shelling is not over. Stay in shelters until the alarm is over,» he said.
According to reports by the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN, Ukrainian air defense systems have also had to act in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Yitomir, Zaporiyia and Vinitsia, while there are also reports of explosions in Odessa. The attacks have led to the loss of power supply in several areas of Ukraine, including Kirovohrad.
For his part, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat said that the Armed Forces are expecting more than 30 missiles to be launched by Russia. «The enemy pays more attention to the center of Ukraine. There is still no information about the presence of drones in Ukrainian airspace,» he concluded.
