The Chinese authorities on Monday branded as «paranoia» the accusations made by the United States against the Asian giant for allegedly supporting Russia in the context of the invasion of Ukraine and stressed that Washington «must stop sending weapons if it wants to end the conflict».
«China will never add fuel to the fire or exploit the crisis,» Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning has asserted during a press conference. «The United States is the one who started the Ukrainian crisis and is the one who is fomenting it the most,» he stressed.
In this regard, he has indicated that «instead of increasing the crisis it should try to exploit it less». «The United States has been spreading paranoia and has been targeting China. We reject this kind of blackmail and we are not going to sit back and watch the U.S. damage the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,» he said, according to Bloomberg news agency.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has avoided criticizing Russia over the war and has offered to mediate peace talks. He has also warned about the possible use of nuclear weapons in the framework of the armed conflict.
