Brazil’s Supreme Court on Monday ordered the country’s Army to dismantle all «Bolsonaro camps» that exist in the national territory within 24 hours after hundreds of followers of former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the headquarters of Congress and the Supreme Court, as well as the presidential palace on Sunday.
The magistrate Alexandre de Moraes has thus stressed the importance of these camps – located in territory outside the Army – being completely dismantled as the Police arrests «all those demonstrators who are still on the streets» after a day that has so far resulted in at least 300 arrests.
In a new court order, Moraes has expressed that «nothing justifies the existence of terrorist camps, financed with the complacency of civil and military authorities in a totally subversive manner and without any respect for the Constitution».
Moraes also warned that the commanders and high officials of the Armed Forces, the Police and the Ministry of Defense will be brought to justice in case these camps continue to exist.
He also pointed out that the main highways of the country, partially occupied by the mob of supporters, should be unblocked throughout the day, according to information from G1 TV channel.
The assault on the aforementioned Brazilian institutions came after months of encampment by Bolsonaro’s supporters in the capital, Basilia, after the former president lost the October presidential elections to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
